Financial Analyst, BC Wildfires Operation November 2017

Canadian Red Cross Victoria, BC

Status: Term One Year, possible extension
The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking a dynamic individual to join its Disaster Management Team.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, Emergency Management, or his/her designate, the incumbent is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, reconciling and completing monthly reports related to the disaster response and recovery operations related to the BC Wildfire response. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring accuracy of financial records for internal & external parties in accordance with the accounting principles, established policies & procedures of the Canadian Red Cross and audit requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Participates in general ledger accounting support during the month end close process. This would include but not be limited to preparation of journal entries and review of preliminary departmental statements for potential omissions or duplications.
Performs “deep dives” into operating costs as requested by Finance Manager to aid in completion of monthly reporting.
Identifies deficiencies in accounting processes and recommends areas of improvement. Provide various financial supports to project development and implementation.
Provide support on the community grant and support to small business program
Perform budget review to make sure they are in accordance with our internal guidelines
Approve interim and final financial reports from partners
Balance Sheet Reconciliations :
Analyses balance sheet account balances on a monthly basis, as assigned, through use of detailed general ledger transaction listings to ensure balances are reasonable and transactions are accurate & complete.
Liaises with Departmental and Program staff to confirm account balances as well as investigate and rectify discrepancies.
Ad Hoc Reporting and Audit:
Performs financial reviews as requested to aid management in the developing and implementing policy changes or process improvements to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery
Forecasting/Budgeting:
Collaborates with management on monthly projections, updating as required and documenting reasons behind changes.
Support other Red Cross initiatives, as needed, to provide for a coordinated team effort to meeting the needs of the most vulnerable in the community.
Education and Experience :
Completion of a Bachelor's degree with a concentration in accounting, finance, or a related field, A minimum of 3 years of job-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Assets:
Experience in working for the Red Cross/Red Crescent movement
Experience with AX Dynamics.
Fluency in both official languages
Working Conditions:
The majority of the work is performed in an environment which is mostly clean and comfortable.
Occasional travel may be required.
This position requires a satisfactory Canadian criminal record reference check
