The Independent Senators Group (ISG), a recently formed parliamentary group, is establishing a Secretariat to support their Senator members. Members of the ISG are autonomous and take policy positions as they see fit, but have joined together to assist them in conducting their parliamentary functions efficiently and effectively. An effective Secretariat requires dedicated and high-performing individuals who are committed to public service.

Summary of Duties The Special Assistant (for translation) reports directly to the Chief of Staff (CoS). The Special Assistant assists to ensure the integrity of ISG communications (internal and external) in both official languages. S/he has a sound understanding of modern communications and looks for opportunities to share the ISG message for a modern Senate in new and engaging ways.
More specifically, the position is required to:
- Revise, edit and update texts in both official languages and keep track of translation requests;
- Provide administrative and communications support (information output, media requests coordination and distribution, etc.);
- Draft press releases and op-eds;
- Maintain social media, i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and ISG's website etc.; and
- Review news media and prepare background information to ensure that the Secretariat is kept abreast of mounting issues and of areas of possible interest or concern.
Demonstrates an ease with being flexible, versatile and accepting of changing environments while maintaining scope and vision.
With little effort the Special Assistant has the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships, both internal and external, with a wide variety of people and viewpoints. The Special Assistant does not let stress or a difference of opinion negatively impact relationships.
Speaks, listens and writes, in both official languages in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques. Excellent public speaking and presentation skills as well as active listening skills.

Statement of Merit Candidates will be assessed against the essential qualifications, behavioural and technical competencies and compatibility with the job using a variety of evaluation methods (for example, written exams, interviews, reference checks).
Essential Qualifications Post-secondary education and/or a combination of education, training and experience;
Experience in text editing and review in both official languages;
Experience in drafting news releases;
Experience in monitoring media and preparation of information summaries; and
Experience with social media platforms.
Technical Competencies Knowledge of and excellent skills on multiple computer platforms and willing to learn as needed;
Proficiency in Adobe Design Suite;
Knowledge of social media platforms;
Strong organizational skills;
Attention to details; and
Operational Requirements The incumbent must be able and willing to work irregular and long hours, mainly in the evenings when the Senate or senatorial committees are sitting.
Conditions of Employment The incumbent must consent to supply complete information and obtain a security accreditation in order to be eligible for appointment.
