SNC-LAVALIN INFRASTRUCTURE Fort McMurray, AB

Job Description We are currently hiring a Trunked Radio, Mine Wireless and Microwave Technician for our Kearl Lake project located North East of Fort McMurray, Alberta.
This position will report to the lead technical supervisor and on site management. Safety on site is the highest priority and personnel will be expected to work in a safe manner at all times. This position is based on a 10/10 rotation, camp job with flights provided from Calgary or Edmonton. This position may require on-call night work.
  • Maintenance, repair and development of industry-related trunked radio systems and mine wireless systems.
Backing up fibre-optic and/or I&C technical positions in a relief/demand capacity. Provide training and oversight to enable experienced technicians as well as apprentices to gain proficiency in trunked radio and mine wireless systems. Installation of 2 way radio and in vehicle Mine Communications Systems including Sirius radios. Documentation of procedures and troubleshooting systems. Reporting to management with suggested improvements or new technologies. Working within a very tight health and safety program. Working at heights performing installations or repairs. Providing mentorship to junior personnel as required. Required skills: Fully qualified and experienced to undertake all maintenance duties associated with trunked radio and mine wireless systems for this operation. Supervisory skills in order to plan, schedule, train, and supervise work activities. Troubleshoot, maintain and repair trunked radio systems, microwave radio systems and wireless interfaces. Perform periodic frequency sweeps to identify potential problems and/or radio interference. Program and troubleshoot complex IP based communications systems. Tower climbing certification and experience advantageous. Develop and maintain asset log, including asset allocation, programming and updates. Develop and implement periodic maintenance procedures. Liaise with system owners group to ensure equipment is operating within the license terms and identify potential for expansion. Install, move and modify telecommunications and related equipment according to job order specifications, standards, and procedures. Diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions to board level. Establish time and cost estimates. Maintain accurate records of staff hours and materials used. Report and monitor service order changes. Maintain and repair telecommunications systems and equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and specifications. Perform additional functions incidental to technician activities. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work efficiently within a rotation cross shift environment. Capable to provide on-tools support for fibre-optic and I&C systems such as CCTV, PAGA or Access Control, for short-term in-fill relief (vacation, illness, etc.) and to meet peak demand requirements. Preference to those with experience with Motorola Trunked Radio Systems and/or Wireless Interface Systems. Must have experience with test equipment such as RF power meters, spectrum analyzers, service analyzers, VSWR meters and BER testers. Comfortable with working at heights including AWP, scaffolds and ladders. Safety Tickets: First Aid, Confined Space & recovery, H2S and Gas detection training, Fall Protection & Working at Heights, WHMIS Preference will be given to those with oil and gas experience. Required qualifications: Minimum 2 years of hands on or supervisory experience for a similar contract, specializing in: Trunked Radio & Mine Wireless disciplines. Trade certification for Communications Electrician/Journeyman Communications Technician or equivalent. Completion of a college electrical or electronics program with specialisation in Telecommunications. Minimum 5 years full-time installation/maintenance experience and certifications in each of the following fields: Industry-related trunked radio systems – Motorola Astro P25 preferred Preference to those with experience with Motorola Trunked Radio Systems and/or Wireless Interface Systems. Must have experience with test equipment such as RF power meters, spectrum analyzers, service analyzers, VSWR meters and BER testers. Comfortable with working at heights including AWP, scaffolds and ladders. Minimum two years additional full-time installation/maintenance experience in one of the following fields: Fibre-optic systems. Industry-related I&C systems – PAGA, CCTV, SCADA, Access Control.
